Chicken in Nihari Masala

Hello everybody :-)

The recipe in focus : Chicken in Nihari Masala. Well Nihari masala is quite popular with red meat, but I tried it out with Chicken and trust me, the result was equally amazing!!

p.s..  am yet to try out the original recipe - Nali Nihari, as it is called when prepared with Red meat. I had it in a restaurant and absolutely loved it!!!

Easy to cook! Here you go

Ingredients

1/2 kg chicken (preferably leg pieces)
5 garlic cloves coarsely crushed
1 onion finely chopped
2 onions (salad like chop, for deep frying)
1/2 cup oil (yeah! half a cup of oil!!)
1/2 cup wheat flour
2 tbsp ghee
3.5 cups water
2 tbsps Nihari Masala(preferable brand - Shaan)
salt to taste

For preparing non veg recipies, I prefer using a pressure cooker as it cooks fast and efficiently.

Heat oil in a cooker, add 1 finely chopped onion and crushed garlic to it. Fry till onion becomes soft, do not fry. Add chicken, Nihari masala and salt to the cooker and fry on high flame for 10 minutes.

Add 2 cups of water and put the cooker lid on. Boil chicken for another 15 mins on low flame. When you boil it for so long, you will notice that chicken will become super soft.

While chicken is put for boiling, mix the wheat flour in 1 and 1/2 cup of water such that the batter is free from lumps and free flowing. Once chicken has boiled, pour the wheat batter slowly into the cooker while stirring continuously and make sure no lumps are formed. On high flame, cook for 10 mins.

While that happens take a frying pan and pour ghee. Add onions to hot ghee and deep fry. Add a pinch of salt to frying onions, it helps in making the process faster. Fry till crisp and brown.

Add fried onions to chicken preparation and leave it for 5 mins on low flame.

Chicken in Nihari masala is ready!!
Serve hot with plain rice or roti or fried rice!
I had prepared Spinach flavoured Mushroom and corn fried rice. Try out this fried rice too, its one of my favourites.
